The 150th turbine is now ready

A milestone, literally and metaphorically

The big day: 23 August, early morning. The last of the 150 turbines on the Gemini wind farm is in position. A special moment, and Matthias Haag, CEO of Gemini, wholeheartedly agrees. ‘The positioning of the 150th and last of the offshore wind farm’s turbines is a fantastic achievement by everyone involved. After the successful installation of the foundations, the offshore high voltage stations and 210 kilometres of export cables, the turbine installation has also gone according to plan. We’re proud of everyone who contributed to the safe construction of Gemini.’

Starting in February, Van Oord’s offshore installation vessels, the Aeolus and the Pacific Osprey, installed all 150 of the Siemens 4.0MW wind turbines. After a successful test phase, the first turbines are now supplying electricity to the energy network. In the time to come, the remaining turbines will be connected and extensively tested. The wind farm will be fully operational by mid-2017.
